Below are the techniques I follow day-to-day to help maintain my anxiety. We all face some form of stress and anxiety throughout our lives. Whether you are someone who deals with anxiety daily or simply are going through a stressful time, I hope these tips will help you.
It may sound simple but trust me, taking the time to breathe during a stressful situation and/or anxiety attack makes all the difference. When I find myself heading towards panic I do my best to stop, take a deep break, and count. I count as high as I need to, and breathe as long as it takes to calm myself.
One of the things that is known to cause the most stress in my life is mess and disorganization. Over the past few months, I have worked to organize my apartment and my life in such a way that it relieves stress day to day. Finding a system that allows you to stay organized and on track is key to a (relatively) stress-free life.
READ AND WRITE
Over the past few months, I have set aside more time in my life for both reading and writing. The calm that takes over my mind and body after reading or writing is amazing. I feel so relaxed and accomplished, therefore diminishing stress and anxiety.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THOSE YOU LOVE
Friends, family, pets, even your household items. Set up a place of living that you love and enjoy to be in. Plaster your walls with photos and art that make your space feel comfortable and relaxing. Dedicate as much of your time as possible to your friends and family doing the things you love – for me that includes dinner, movies, game nights and shopping!
TREAT YO SELF
It is important to be cautious with money and budget and blah blah – but from time to time we need to treat ourselves. A little retail therapy from time to time is bound to perk anyone up.
SPEND MORE TIME ALONE
As a society, we have become more social and rarely spend time alone. Even if we aren’t in the physical presence of someone else, we are connected to them through social media. Recently I have set aside time each day for me. I have set aside time dedicated to myself to read, take a bubble bath, go to the gym – something that gives me time to myself to think. I have discovered new things about myself during this time and it has allowed me to be more independent and in turn happier.
